Which running shoes should you choose - AzylBiegacza will help.

Before you decide to start running, the first fundamental thing is to pick the right running shoes. The most important qualities in a running shoe are stability and cushioning.

Cushioning in running shoes

THE SOLE - usually white, the underside of the shoe, made of foam, serves as the cushioning. Its job is to protect the foot and the joints from injuries caused by impact with the ground on the run. Using everyday shoes for running is not advisable, as it can lead to a serious injury that stops you training altogether.

Road shoes or trail shoes?

Let us start with the more popular ones, commonly known as road shoes: they are built for ground with a consistent structure. Put simply, their defining feature is flat rubber on the sole (well, perhaps not perfectly flat, or we would simply slip on our running routes), which is reinforced and therefore stands up better to wear.

At our store AzylBiegacza we carry many brands of shoes built for the road. These are Brooks, Mizuno, Asics, New Balance, Saucony

Considerably different from these, trail shoes are fitted with distinctive lugs on the sole, usually rubber. Their job is to add grip on unpredictable ground. What do we mean by unpredictable ground? Any kind of forest route, gravel, loose surfaces such as sand, or mud. Using this kind of running shoe on a road route is strongly inadvisable, because the protruding lugs wear down fast.

Examples of such shoes are: Altra Lone Peak, Saucony Peregrine, Mizuno Wave Daichi, Brooks Cascadia.

Cushioning in running shoes is above all about safety.

Cushioning is a broad subject and it is best discussed with an adviser at our store AzylBiegacza, because a great deal here depends on factors such as the wearer's weight, their level of experience, how prone they are to injury and much else besides.

When we talk about cushioning, it is best to split it into three levels:

Running shoes with high cushioning:

The highest of the three levels is intended above all for heavier runners, people more prone to injury, or those who have been through an injury and want to come back to running in a very safe way.

Examples of such shoes are:

Brooks Glycerin

ASICS Nimbus

Mizuno WaveSky

New Balance 1080

Saucony Triumph

Running shoes with medium cushioning:

Most often chosen by new runners. Thanks to their optimal cushioning they suit most kinds of running, delivering safety and comfort in use. There are more of them than anything else and they are the most versatile shoes, meaning they can serve for training and, for beginners, as a racing shoe too.

Examples of running shoes with medium cushioning:

Brooks Ghost

Asics Cumulus

Mizuno Wave Rider

New Balance 880

Saucony Ride

Running shoes with low cushioning:

Shoes often used in races, for more experienced runners whose priority is low weight on race day. Shoes with low cushioning are more dynamic

Examples of shoes with low cushioning are:

Mizuno Wave Shadow

Saucony Kinvara

Brooks Ravenna
